DelG
I thought I'd share this with TNG users and especially those who may be interested in the history of the Alamo and the participants. My co-author and I completed a monograph on William E Summers, a member of the Immortal 32 and one of our kin - you can access the monograph which is linked on his individual page. Below is the text of a msg sent to various of my Summers kin.February 20, 2013re: William E Summers, History & Genealogy: Pioneer, Revolutionary, Ranger, Alamo Hero as member of the Immortal 32The 177th anniversary is near of the fall of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. We are especially honored to offer more knowledge and understanding about one of the fallen heroes. That William E Summers is our relative is particularly gratifying in that we have the opportunity to share more of his personal story and add to Texas history. Our monograph has been warmly received by the Alamo Museum in San Antonio and by the Texas Historical Commission. The Alamo will be changing their appropriate plaques to show William's true birthplace in South Carolina vs. Tennessee. The Historical Commission will be to erecting an historical roadside marker near the lands granted to him and his brother Henry C G Summers by the Mexican government in 1835. These lands lie about 12 miles southwest of the present day Hallettsville, Lavaca County, Texas.Just this week, we agreed the narrative for the marker with the Historical Commission and the order will now be submitted to a foundry for casting - they guess the marker may be completed in May 2013 but the actual completion date is unknown. The next step then would be a dedication ceremony. A local historical society has expressed a desire to host a dedication ceremony which date is to be determined but we expect it will occur this summer or early fall.We have requested the Historical Commission/local historical society inform us soonest of the date and place of the dedication ceremony so that we may inform anyone who may wish to attend. Please contact me if you wish to be made aware of the historical marker dedication ceremonies when the particulars are known.
