Are you still having this problem? When I go to http://spinder.net and click Genealogie, I see your TNG site. If I go to spinder.net/family, I see the same site without the Joomla header. Since the error message specified the server path to index_joomla.php, this might be what caused your problem. The Bridge Component configuration setting you be an URL not a path name - so you should use "http://spinder.net/family" TomK Hi Tom, Thanks for looking! Yep, it works. And stupid me, because passwords for joomla admin and tng admin are different. As soon as I got the frontend accessible again, it went fine as long as I did not login. I created a joomla user that also existed in tng with the same password and even that went fine. So hoorah! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) I now have only the problem left that content in de frontpage only shows up when you're logged in. All other pages show up fine and I'm sure I left everything open. Weird (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_confused.gif) But that's not the TNG bridge's fault (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif) |

I am new at all of this and it is kicking me. I read but does not make scense.
On the server there is: [*]PHP 5.2.1 [*]Joomla 1.5.14.0.1 [*]TNG 7.11 [*]MySQL 4.1.22 I can run tng and I can run Joomla, but when I follow the instructions, and put TNG in the menu it can not find the page. If anyone wants to reply off line with my foolish old mind, if you leave your phone I will call you if you have some time to help walk me through this, I can read, but the hands on makes me learn. genealogy@bennascents.com Thanks Michael |

Michael, You didn't mention what you are seeing when you click on your TNG menu item. What specifically is the problem? Are you getting a 404 error, blank screen, not validated in your TNG site, or something else? I take it that your TNG installation is in a different directory from Joomla and that both are working individually. The relationship of the TNG installation to your Joomla installation is important. Normally the TNG installation is in a subdirectory of the Joomla installation directory. Please confirm what your configuration is - i.e. http://myjoomlasite/mytngsite. Did you follow the wiki installation article, and install the TNG Bridge component "successfully" in your Joomla Installation, and also FTP copy the index_joomla.php file to your TNG subdirectory? Verify that the TNG Menu item you created in Joomla shows TNG Genealogy Menu Type. Also verify in Joomla Administrator >> Components >> TNG Genealogy >> Edit Configuration that it is pointing to your TNG subdirectory (e.g. /mytngsite), or the URL (e.g. http://myjoomlasite/mytngsite). This last part is often what causes a problem if not configured correctly. A link to your site would help others in providing you guidance. Tom |

I have a sub-domain http://www.ourfamilytree.bennascents.com
the structure looks like this: /ourfamilytree/html/ This is where Joomla is located and then I did like the bridge said and /ourfamilytree/html/TNG/ This is where TNG is located. I am at (757) 424-7503 if you care to help me walk through this Thanks for your swift reply this morning Michael Michael, You didn't mention what you are seeing when you click on your TNG menu item. The error message for your "Our Family Tree" menu link returns: "The requested URL /tng/index_joomla.php was not found on this server." Which means the bridge is not finding your site. Your problem is due to your TNG Directory being in uppercase (TNG) while your Bridge Configuration is pointing to a lower case (/tng) directory. Case does matter. For example if you access your TNG site directly via http://www.ourfamilytree.bennascents.com/tng it too will fail as you must use TNG. You can also set the bridge configuration to point to http://www.ourfamilytree.bennascents.com/TNG But the simplest way is to just re-edit your Bridge configuration to point to /TNG Tom |

Thanks, I think I figured out that I did not give the path correctly in the config. I got that part running now but cannot make tng run nor do I know how to get a login in the joomla Michael For the Bridge to work and allow you to login to your TNG site you obviously have to first be logged into Joomla. As long as you only have an admin user name on Joomla and your TNG admin user name is the same you probably will be okay. Check through the forum and wiki for some of the custom setting you may need to set in the index_joomla.php file. For the purpose of this message I am assuming that you only have one username for each Joomla and TNG --> admin. Setting up login on Joomla is off topic for this forum, and you should probably get acquainted with the Joomla fourms for such questions. Not to leave you in a lurch, you need to go to the administrator side of Joomla, and go to Extensions >> Module Manager. Then search for "login". This should find the Login Form module. Click on the Login Form module to open it up, then change Enabled to "Yes", select the position you want the Login form to show up - I would leave it (or set it) at Left so it will be in the same lineup as your menu. Make sure the Access Level is set to Public. In the menu assignment area make sure you have at least Home highlighted using select menu item(s) from list. Then Save. When you get back to the Module listing, select Position, set it to Left, and remove login from the search area, and click go. This will show you all of the items that show are configured to show up in the Left position. You can then change the order to have the Login Form placed where you want it - i.e. after your Menu, before, etc. Once you have Login Form show up, then you can register for a new Joomla username - such as michael (you'll need a second unique email address). Go through the Joomla registration process depending on how you set it up. Once you have the username set up, log in as that user and then click your menu item to TNG. This should set up a new username in your TNG database for your Joomla registered name (michael in this example). All it does is set up the user id in TNG. Depending on your settings in install_joomla.php, you may or may not be able to see living, have edit privileges, etc. To give the user michael the correct settings, you have to login to TNG admin area and adjust the user settings for michael, and establish a branch if you want access to living persons limited to one branch. There is a learning curve for both Joomla and TNG. My suggestion to you is focus on TNG for this forum - and get it working to your needs. Only use Joomla initially to process your user requests. The whole concept of CMS's is that they provide a lot of flexibility on what and how to set up your site, but some of the concepts may be new to you and take a while to get used to. Just remember to make regular backups of both your files and your MySQL database(s). I normally use my FTP application to keep a copy of the server file structure on my PC. Tom |

You are having a template issues on your front page as well not just on the TNG menu page.
Try reinstalling your Joomla temlate. If not, it could be any number of things. What was the component you removed that you think broke your site? You may want to ask the developer that made it also or check the component's forums. -joe |

Not really. Some work better than others as some are written better than others.
Most folks experiment and some re-write their templates to fit around TNG. We will hopefully be releasing the new iframeless bridge in the next week or so. SAS was hoping in October. We are finishing up closed beta testing as I write this. A few more issues to solve before a public release. The new bridge will make this bridge obsolete. -joe |

Very Nice Bridge. Is there any way to import current TNG users into Joomla without them having to press the Genealogy (or bridge) button? |

http://www.myrootsplace.com/index.php?opti...&Itemid=117 Very Nice Bridge. Is there any way to import current TNG users into Joomla without them having to press the Genealogy (or bridge) button? hi teresao, If you are asking about the new iframeless bridge, then yes, there is a synchronization feature that will allow you to import all of your TNG users into Joomla when you set up the new bridge. A table is displayed that shows which users were added - but please note, each TNG user must have an unique email address as Joomla will not allow multiple usernames to have the same email address. Please Go to CMSgenealogy to discuss the new bridge. Currently there are still a few bugs in RC1.5 that are being squashed, so you may want to wait until RC2 has been released. Tom |
