Hi, Martin,
First, what a beautiful site! You know a lot more about web design than I do, and there's tons of information there. In terms of the navigation, I found the top nav bar very easy to use. I like the color scheme. The second part of the site (below the nav bar) is a little counterintuitive for me, because it took me a second to figure out what the arrows on the left do - maybe that's just me. Also, perhaps for pages that are not the home page, it might be better to remove the pictures and messages from that section so there is more room for the content, and the user can see it without having to scroll. Totally personal opinion, though.. Thank you Beth,
I am no expert. But I do have an idea of what I want my site to do for me and for visitors. The problem is that sometimes the two can conflict and that is why I value the opinions of yourself and others. Any independant opinion is helpful because it gives me the chance to see things (good and bad) which I have maybe taken for granted myself. Thank you again for taking the time to give your thoughts. Best wishes Martin |

Martin,
Your site looks great! I have seen some site with CMS that get pedigree charts constrained with scroll bars if there are more than 4 generations and yours seems work well with larger pedigrees. Just a comment about the welcome header. It seems to take up a lot of screen space which is fine on the front page, but for someone looking at genealogy stuff, it may be a hassle for folks to scroll down on every page. Overall, I really like it. Best Regards, Bryan |

I really like your site. I noticed that you have very nice table transcription of the census records in the source area. How did you create this? What do I have to do to create this.
I think that you need a bit more padding in information area. The data seems to stream together since there is little spacing between the data. Don |

Don,
Thank you for your kind comments. I can't claim credit for the table transcriptions. I must have 'borrowed them from someone else's site at some point. That said they are a simple piece of html script entered in the notes for the relevant census. I attach an example of the script: QUOTE <title></title> </head> <body> <table class="censustab"> <tr> <th>Name</th> <th>Relationship</th> <th>Age</th> <th>Occupation</th> <th>Where born</th> </tr> <tr> <td>Name here</td> <td align="center">position in household here</td> <td align="center">age here</td> <td align="center">occupation here</td> <td align="center">birth place here</td> </tr> <tr> <td>as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> </tr> <tr> <td>as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> </tr> <tr> <td>as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center">as above</td> <td align="center"></td> <td align="center">as above</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> You will see that the script refers to a 'tableclass'. This is the styling, and is a class which I included in the 'mytngstyles' file. You need to reflect the clours and formats of your own theme when creating you tableclass. I hope this helps. If not then please let me know and I'll try to help further. Regards Martin |
